Feature films (unreleased works) and short films exploring the “dark side of cinema” are eligible to participate. Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC), the Emilia‑Romagna Region, and the Municipality of Ravenna.
We are also delighted to announce that the Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest has joined the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF).
Founded in 1987, the Federation is dedicated to promoting and supporting European fantastic cinema. It brings together around twenty European festivals, with only two based in Italy, and includes supporting members in Asia and North America. Each year, the Federation awards the Méliès d’Or for the best European fantastic feature film and short film, following a two‑stage process: each member festival assigns a Méliès d’Argent to a European film presented in its competitive section; the winners then become nominees for the Méliès d’Or, which is awarded during a subsequent festival on the Federation’s calendar. Starting this year, Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest is officially called to nominate its own Méliès d’Argent, which will compete alongside the short films selected by the other member festivals for the final award presented at the Sitges Film Festival gala.
